SO, WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE ENERGY STAR RATED?

In order to be ENERGY STAR qualified, the product must meet strict efficiency standards that have been developed for three climate zones in Canada. Additionally, products must be certified by an accredited agency for their energy efficiency.

Due to the fact that our climate becomes increasingly colder from Zone 1 through Zone 3, the levels are more stringent for each successive zone, meaning that models that qualify for zone 3 also qualify for zone 1 and 2.

Windows are rated based on U-factor or Energy Rating.

U-factor measures the rate at which heat loss occurs, with lower U-factor numbers indicating slower heat loss.

Energy Rating is calculated using a formula which includes U-factor, solar gain and air leakage. Values that are higher indicate more potential for annual energy savings. Air leakage rates must also be less than or equal to 1.5 litres per second, per square metre of window area.

HOW DOES LOW E HELP?
